My name is DiAnne Cooper. I am an artist, mentor and U.S. military veteran. I am also the sole caregiver for my elderly parents.
I am battling Stage Four Endometrial Serous Carcinoma / Cancer.
After some brutal rounds of chemotherapy, I have been in remission twice.
During a recent dental appointment, a new lesion was found in the back of my mouth.
My type of cancer is very aggressive and has a particularly bleak survival rate. But, I’ve never let the size of the challenge or odds against success ever keep me down.
Without financial help, I will have to stop my ongoing medical care because the bills are far too much for me to handle and still keep a roof over my head and food on the table.
On March 7, 2020, I was taken by ambulance to the emergency room for what I thought was a heart attack. The nurses kept coming back over seven hours to draw what seemed like gallons of my blood and took me for multiple x-rays and CT scans. Finally, the doctor very unceremoniously broke the news that I was being diagnosed with advanced cancer.
My world did not come crashing down, but rather it shattered like crystal into individual shards my life, my family, my friends, my work, my dreams, hopes and plans for the future. Each fragment flashing its own complex facets of concerns.
My treatment:
I am currently receiving intensive treatment at Colorado University Hospital on the Anschutz campus.
Unfortunately, cancer, the pandemic, the troubled economy and caring for my parents has decimated my savings. I know I’m not alone in struggling with money issues. But, time is not on my side.
Cancer is a difficult enemy to fight and never sleeps. Time is of the essence and I can’t put off the treatment until I can raise the money myself through other means. I’m asking for contributions so that I can receive the lifesaving care that I need.
Can you help me survive? I have a basic insurance package but cancer treatment is enormously expensive. Sadly, like many others that are confronted with a serious health condition, the bills are becoming a mountain of worry that are coming due very soon. Your donation will help pay for the chemotherapy, surgery, radiology and scans, medications and lab tests. I will also need in-home care and basic living expenses. Even a modest donation can help with gas to get to the hospital or a meal while at chemotherapy. If you are unable to contribute, I completely understand. These are difficult times for many of us. But, you can help by sharing my gofundme campaign link.
My personal journey: So far the chemotherapy has been extremely tough but endurable. It is being made somewhat easier by medications for pain, nausea and other difficult side effects. I know that attitude is a huge part of making it through. That is something I have a huge amount of: Attitude.
