Hi, my name is Tash and I am a nurse from Australia, currently volunteering as a Nurse Educator in the Emergency Department of the National Hospital (HNGV) in Timor-Leste. I have volunteered here for the last year and will continue to work here for the foreseeable future.
I am trying to raise money to buy essential equipment for the ED. Currently we do not have one single working complete patient monitor in the entire ED (adults and paediatrics).
The ability to monitor blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturations is vital for the survival of patients in the ED. This allows us to continually monitor patients and recognise deterioration so we can respond promptly to save lives.
As the main hospital in Timor-Leste, we receive the most critical cases and despite our best efforts, we cannot provide the necessary care for these patients with the limited capacity we have.
We have patients on ventilators and medications/infusions that require constant monitoring and we are unable to provide care to these patients safely and effectively.
Access to and the provision of quality health care is a human right. The team here try their absolute best, but without critical equipment, this task is insurmountable.
Please help me purchase this much needed equipment so the amazing team of doctors and nurses in HNGV can save the lives of the beautiful people of Timor-Leste.
Thanks so much for your support. Obrigada barak
