Please HELP Me avoid AMPUTATIONS

Hi there, My name is Dominic Mahoney. So that you can get to know me a little better, here are the reasons I have started this page.

At 31 years old, I have already been through 36 complex surgical operations to surgically correct my bilateral club feet a condition I was born with. These surgeries involved breaking up every bone in the foot ankle and lower legs to allow for them to be reconstructed to form a "normal bone and tissue structure" unfortunately this has left me with agonizing Pain throughout my life, when ever I'd walk stand run jog etc etc this left me basically. Unable to walk without assistance I'd often have to use a wheelchair or have my parents bring one out anytime we went for a walk this was because the pain would begin almost immediately.

Now at 31 years old I finally have a diagnosis to explain why I have experienced all this pain.

The diagnoses END STAGE OSTEOARTHRITIS OF THE FOOT AND ANKLE!!!.

My current future according to my Consultant is not good,

He advised that due to the damage in the foot and Ankle that there is only 2 options for me, 1 which would solve the problem but leave me with only 1 limb ( for a short period at least) and 1 which would basically end the same way due to how it leaves the foot and Ankle completely unusable which 99% of patients who recieve this surgery always require within months option 1

First I shall. List the symptoms below so that you can fully understand my current predicament

Every time I stand you will hear a large crack I ebgin to move you will hear several more cracks and pops

Every month my foot and Ankle will. Completly fuse so that if I try to stand up it will literally cause me to pass out due to the large crack pop it feels as if my shin has been blown off this takes upto 14 days to fully recover ie able to stand put pressure and walk, also for the fever hot to the touch redness and swelling to reduce

I. Currently cannot move my foot in anyway without causing cracking popping of the joints tissue muscles

So these were the options given by the NHS orthopedic consultant this is relating to my right foot and Ankle

An amputation of the whole foot and Ankle this can have huge complications which can be life threatening and even if I survive it'll leave me in constant pain

So option 2: A complete foot and Ankle fusion to the tibia ie the shin bone

Now this would allow to keep the foot but it would be completely fused to the tibia meaning it would be non functional and as I said would most certainly require a amputation in the very near future

Now this is about the right foot according to the surgeon the left foot is following closely behind not quite at the end stage but very close behind so I should expect in the next couple of years to begin to experience all fo the symptoms of the right ankle

As you can see my options are few and far between none are a good option none that can actually stop the pain

Now these options are always on the table should I need in the future

So in the hope that I could find some OTHER OPTIONS I saught the help of the private sector to see if they had any other options

Surgically they agree there is no other option

However there is 1 option to me that could basically allow my foot and Ankle to Survive, at least prolong it's life for upwards of 10 maybe 20 years before havign no choice to the surgery

This is called the MOMENTUM BRACE which unfortuantely the NHS will not provide due to the high cost (they believe that as I would eventually need a amputation it isn't worth the cost)

This is basically a prosthetic it is designed for you to allow all pressure to be removed from the foot and Ankle it allows for a better walk and no pain whilst doing it

Due to it havign to be individually made it costs a lot and I mean a lot

An amount that I would never in my life be able to afford

£6000 per brace

This is to pay for all the appointments to allow for any correction that might be needed,

To pay for the prosthetic itself

And ofcourse the usal private doctor fees

Unfortuantely I do not qualify yhe the private insurance because this is now a diagnosed condition

So I am pleading for YOUR HELP to try and improve my life and avoid an AMPUTATION
