Hello everyone my Name i Josh Hendershott. I have a family of 6with 4 kids. Our life had been a little rough over the last year and just got much harder on February 25, 2025.
I had just started a new job hoping to get are lives back in check I've been working for the usps since December as a rural carrier assistant (RCA). I had just finished up training down state and was training on routes when this happened. On February 25 it was are nephews birthday so we were having a little get together are are house. Around 12:30pm before anything had started i had just finished putting are 3 little boys down for a nap and had went in to use the bathroom, on my way in i started getting a very bad chest pain that moved to my jaw and had lasted for about 10-15 minutes. Once the initial pain ended it was a moderate pain for the rest of the time that I was able to mostly hide I think. After everything was done and over with the birthday party and everyone had left. I brought up what had happened to my wife and mother. My wife told me I needed to go in now. So we left the kids with my mom and headed to the munson ER. We got there around 7:30-8 that night and I explained to them what had happened and after a while I finally got into a room. I initial thought i had a heart attack but they seemed like I didn't since there was really no signs of one. After a while they did a mri on my chest and head.after this is whan I found out what had curly happened. After they got the results they came into my room and told myself and my wife along with my mom who was able to make it in that I had a aortic tear that needed immediate open heart surgery. While everyone was devastated I just sat there with a blank look on my face like this can't be real. They called a surgeon in that was on his way home and he came and talked to us while they prepped my for ivs he explained that there was no way they could do this surgery at munson so I had to be flown to a different hospital either Grand Rapids, U of M or Cleveland. After some time going back and forward and finding out the weather was to bad for a flight they were able to get me an EMS ride down to U of M hospitals once my chariot was ready my wife followed me to the loading spot we said our goodbyes. She got thing situated at home and was about an hour behind us. After my 4 hour ride I finally arrived to the hospital and met an amazing team of doctors and nurses who finished prepping me for surgery and just like that I was out.
After surgery when whenninhad woke up it all really sunk in. After being told everything and in the hospital for practically 2 weeks they finally let me go home but I have afib issues as well and horners syndrome in my right eye. so I've been put on extra meds and a heart monitor on my way out. Now I am having multiple doctors appointments at home as well as in Ann arbor mi in the future. I was told I will be on life long restrictions of lifting 30-50lbs once I get that far. With these restrictions I will not be able to return to work at the usps due to weight restrictions. As of right now I can not drive and have a 10lbs weight limit.
I am very thankful to be alive and well now but we have a long road ahead of us. Any help would be appreciate for travel expenses as well as bill while we don't have any income. I also have no idea what my insurance is going to be covering for this procedure.
Thank you all in advance
