I am writing to you today to seek urgent financial assistance as my wife, Marlene, and I navigate an extremely challenging period in our lives. Less than a year ago, we arrived in the United States as permanent residents under dire circumstances. Our situation is now critical, and we are in desperate need of support.

We lived through decades of economic instability and political turmoil in our country. The situation worsened dramatically in recent years, culminating in our decision to emigrate. During that time, I worked as an independent architect and contractor, but hyperinflation, currency devaluation, and deteriorating economic conditions made it increasingly difficult to sustain our livelihood. We sold everything we owned to move to the United States and start anew.

Since our arrival last October, we have faced unexpected and overwhelming challenges. I came with a job offer but couldn’t hold onto it when my wife Marlene started to experience memory loss and was diagnosed with dementia. Since then, her condition has rapidly deteriorated. She is now disabled, unable to walk after a stroke, and requires long-term care. Unfortunately, her insurance plan does not cover the necessary level of care, and our savings have been completely depleted. Additionally, she is not eligible for Medicaid or any form of government benefit for another four years.

Returning to Venezuela is not an option for us. The country’s economy is stagnant, and I have lost all work connections. The severe economic crisis has left wages worthless, jobs scarce, and basic public services unreliable. Furthermore, political repression following the most recent elections has intensified, making life there increasingly dangerous.

I ask for your support during this difficult time. Any assistance you can provide will be instrumental in ensuring that Marlene receives the care she needs while I continue my search for employment. We are committed to rebuilding our lives here, but we cannot do it alone.
