Hi! My name is Mary Delacerda. If a pandemic wasn’t enough to damper a world, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2020. However, I have always been a fighter, have a strong faith base, don’t give up easily, and believe that better is possible. With your support, I know that my family and I will make it through this challenging time.
A LITTLE ABOUT ME…
I am a devoted wife and mother of two caring, smart and determined kids. My son is a senior in high school and enjoys basketball & is studying sports therapy and medicine. My daughter is studying to obtain her Master’s degree in Special Education. I’m also grandmother to a wonderful, rambunctious, handsome 5-year-old boy. I have spent most of my adult life dedicated to improving the lives of children – not only my own, but caring for and helping to shape other kids too. Early in my career, I was a Head Start teacher, and over the last 11 years, I have been overjoyed working with older kids for the Visalia Charter Independent Study Highschool.
WHY I NEED YOUR HELP…
I began fighting for my life in September by undergoing a Lumpectomy and then soon thereafter started with chemotherapy treatments. While I have been battling cancer, my husband has been fighting for a way to support our family financially. You see, he was released from his job in October due to the pandemic and poor economic times. He had worked for that company more than 21 years.
Now, let’s fast forward to 2021. In January, my whole family, including myself, contracted COVID-19, which we all thankfully recovered from. My husband is still without employment. I have continued chemotherapy treatments and will have the last series on March 4. From there, I will start radiation every day for 6 weeks and a dosage of a chemotherapy infusion for a year.
Effective March 5, I will have exhausted my sick leave from the school district and will be officially terminated, which means no health insurance and no income. I am seeking financial help for my cancer treatments, but also need help with paying the mortgage, food, utilities, and basic necessities. I will be forever grateful for your positive thoughts, prayers, and any financial donation you are able to make. No amount is too small. Thank you in advance for helping me beat the socks off of cancer. I know with your support my family and I will make it through this trying time.
