Aloha, my name is Melissa Rigney and I am organizing this fundraiser for my mother Margie Rigney.
First I want to thank everyone for all of their love and support in this difficult time.
My loving dad, Bob Rigney passed away on the winter solstice, Dec 21, 2022.
With this shocking and heartbreaking news, we couldn't have imagined how much bureaucracy we would have to deal with.
I wanted to do this so my mother can focus on healthy grieving for my dad, the love of her life, as well as her own recovery from cervical cancer.
The weight of financial burdens, threatens this.
Whatever amount you can contribute would help tremendously in this transition.
Right now we are still uncertain of all of the financial ramifications this has.
This GoFundMe with be used for all expenses related to the passing of my dad, as well as making sure my mom can get through this without being swallowed by debt and stress.
Some of these expenses include:
Mortuary and Funeral expenses.
Hospital co-pays for 12 days in the ICU, Surgery, Daily CT Scans, Intubation, etc. To my knowledge, In the state of Hawaii, the spouse is responsible for all "necessaries" which encompass all unpaid medical bills.
She may also be responsible for any or all debts that may have accrued, which may be over $20,000. We are still unclear with how to handle this.
Loss of work.
Helping her with rent on her own and all other monthy expenses.
I will have the funds put directly into an account I made specifically to help my mother and I will handle everything for her. Just like my dad used to do.
