Please Help Marc & Alex

Marc and Alex Piquette are two of the most kindhearted, humble and hard working people you will ever meet. Dedicated entrepreneurs, Marc is the Chef/Owner of Cast Iron Kitchen Private Dining & Catering and Alex is the Owner/Operator of Kombucha Hound. Both businesses operate from their small home in Wyoming, ON. You will often catch these two out and about making deliveries to their customers, harvesting ingredients from their garden for the food and beverage they produce, helping out their neighbours or just trying to keep up with their 18 month old toddler, Ripley.

Unfortunately, this young, entrepreneurial family has been struck by tragedy and they need our help. In the early morning hours of Saturday April 29th, Marc experienced persistent chest pain. The pain was severe enough he was unable to sleep. Concerned something might be wrong, they drove to the hospital. Upon arrival at the Petrolia hospital, Marc was immediately taken in for assessment. The ER doctors quickly determined the situation was very serious and that he needed to be medically transported to the hospital in Sarnia. After multiple tests in Sarnia, their worst fear was confirmed. Marc, a perfectly healthy 37 year old man, had indeed had a heart attack. On May 1st, Marc was sent to London for more advanced tests. Cardiac specialists in London determined his heart attack had been severe in nature. At this point doctors have been unable to determine the cause nor have they completed their full course of treatment for the heart attack. Life for Marc is on hold.

Although Marc and Alex are relieved to have a diagnosis, they are left with more questions than answers. Just when they thought they were on the journey to recovery, things got worse. On Tuesday May 2nd, shortly after Marc was discharged from the hospital, they suffered a fire in their commercial kitchen. Luckily their fire suppression system went off, saving their building, but there is considerable damage and loss that is not covered by insurance.

This situation is truly a nightmare. Their entire livelihood is dependent on their commercial kitchen and their ability to work. As a result of the fire, they must replace damaged equipment, undertake costly repairs and replace every ingredient and food item used to create the amazing items that come out of their kitchen. What’s more, Alex is now the only one who can work. Until such time as doctors determine the cause of Marc's heart attack and can treat it appropriately, Marc cannot work. Doctors have not indicated how long it will be before Marc can work again. Being self-employed, the loss of Marc's income puts a tremendous burden on their small family. Not only do they have everyday life and bills for themselves but they also have the needs of their 18 month old son, their farm animals and some medical expenses to worry about.
