Please help Maia with Cancer treatments
Donation protected
Hello friends and family , who would like to help ? Maia, ..... our friend, sister , cousin, daughter , mother, ....... was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer Sept 11, 2019 . Of all days, ..... as if the terrorist attack is not enough to think about that day. It is said to be an aggressive type of cancer. Maia is very unfortunately following in the footsteps of her beloved and brave Mother who passed from breast cancer when she was 37. Maia is facing this adversity just like she has at other times in her life : with dignity, grace , and determination ! She's a TOUGH girl and a fighter, but as she is going to be on Chemotherapy she is most likely going to have to cut back at work or take a break altogether because it will make her feel tired and ill , and she must conserve her strength. Chemo will be for 4 months . Then there will be the surgeries and radiation. This all will have an impact on Maia financially, as these medical crisis do on most people. You know Maia,... she remains very positive and up for the challenge , but she could use our help . WE WANT HER TO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING BUT FOCUS ON GETTING WELL !!! Please donate what you can . Prayers always sought as well. God bless you all and take care of yourselves. Thank you so very much.
10/29/19 UPDATE : Maia is doing well, she's had one Chemo under her belt now. Has had very little side effects thus far except a bit of dizziness and some fatigue here and there. This is thanks to the team of Drs who have her on a good regimen with prevention meds. And Maia is not a complainer , she remains positive and focused . Round 2 of Chemo will be coming up early next week. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND DONATIONS.
11/9/19 UPDATE :

Today has been a rough one.. Day 18 on chemotherapy..and it feels like I've been hit by a bus! Literally... Every inch of my body hurts, even my scalp laying on my pillow... I even called in to work....So no... I don't feel guilty at all for having that second piece of pumpkin pie with a mountain of whipped cream Tonite!!! Strong like a girl!!! Pink power
1/8/20 UPDATE :
Well, so very unfortunate but a reality, Maia tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation that causes this cancer. It took a while to get the test results but they are now in. This means to prevent this type of cancer from cropping up again it is advised she have a DOUBLE mastectomy ( even though the cancer is only in the right breast and lymph nodes) AND a total hysterectomy. She'll have the mastectomies March 4th. The hysterectomy will come (I'm guessing) in perhaps June. Still a long road ahead, but Maia hangs in there well ! Thank you for your continued support and prayers !
1/30/20 UPDATE :
Maia has now completed the Chemotherapy. Tuesday was the last one ! Next is the double mastectomy and radiation. The radiation will be Monday thru Friday for a month. Her insurance pays for all but her co-pays for each treatment and the co-pays are $60. That's 20 X $60 = $1,200. She's going to apply for assistance with that, and we hope they let her have some. Meanwhile she will work about 2 -3 days per week. She feels dreadful for about 6 days after Chemo, so she will commence with working in a few days and will be able to work for the next 3 weeks right up to the surgery. She is in excellent spirits. Her friends ( YOU) and family (YOU) continue to be very supportive and encourage her on . The Lord blesses you for that !!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you to all of you !!!!!!!!!
3/5/2020 UPDATE :
Maia had her double mastectomy yesterday. Came thru with flying colors. And her spirits and attitude are just great ! We will be picking her up in an hour. Amazing that they only keep a patient like this 1 and 1/2 days. But we will take care of her at our home. Cards would be nice if you are so inclined ;o) . Our address is ; 12473 Bellaire Dr, Thornton, Co 80241. Thank you in advance !!!! Love and blessings to all.
3/28/2020 UPDATE :
The tissue removed in the mastectomies was examined very closely. Pathology report came back about 2 weeks ago, there was still some remaining active cancer cells in Maia's right breast and lymph nodes after the Chemotherapy she had. Maia is to get her Jackson-Pratt drainage tubes out tomorrow. Then, in about 3 weeks will start another round of Chemo. As I understand it, it is for prophylaxis as they can't be sure any cancer cells didn't escape the original area and move out into her body. It will be oral medication and not IV now. She will take it for 6 mos. There will be side effects, as usual , so she will most likely not be able to work very much. One thing good,.. her hair is growing back ! They said this new Chemo might spare the hair, which Maia is happy about !
4/6/2020 UPDATE :
Covid-19 going on !! "Shelter in place " ,... " social distancing" and wearing masks when going out if absolutely necessary. Maia has to be extra diligent in protecting herself from getting this. She will be starting the new Chemo in another couple weeks. This Chemo is in oral form, so she doesn't have to go to the Clinic to get IV Chemo. That is a very good thing right now with the virus going around.
