Saving Moody: A One-Pound Fighter’s Journey

I'm Jessie Sanders. A couple of weeks ago, I found a tiny stray kitten and named him “Mad-Eye” Moody — after the Harry Potter character. From the moment I picked him up, I felt like God placed him in my life for a reason.

Mad-Eye is only about 7 to 8 weeks old, and he’s already been through more than most animals ever should. When I first found him, he weighed less than a pound — just skin and bones, and his left eye was completely matted shut. I rushed him to the emergency vet, where they gave us medication to try and save the eye.

A week later, I took him to his regular vet, and he weighed just 0.8 pounds. They said the eye couldn’t be saved and recommended surgery to remove it. We scheduled it for June 19th, hoping he’d have a little more time to grow stronger.

But on the afternoon of June 5th, I went to feed him and saw that his eye had ruptured. I immediately rushed him to the vet, and they kept him overnight. He had emergency surgery the next morning, on June 6th. After surgery, he finally reached a full pound — his first big milestone.

Now, as he’s trying to recover, he’s been diagnosed with pneumonia and is back at the emergency vet, needing to stay overnight again. It’s been a lot — physically, emotionally, and financially — but I’m doing everything I can for this tiny fighter. Despite everything, he still purrs when I hold him. He’s so loving, so brave, and I just want to give him the life he deserves.

Today I got a call from the emergency vet, Moody ended up passing away from a seizure.
