As many of you know, two summers ago Luna fought for her life and made a full recovery. What I don’t talk about often is how we are still in $4000 in debt due to her illness, and overall it cost us about $10,000 to save her.

Now she is facing another medical emergency, so far I owe around $5000 for 24 hours of treatment, she is at an animal hospital and Agoura Hills, California, admitted overnight last evening for IV fluids, supportive medications, and potential antibiotics. Her systolic blood pressure upon arriving was in the 60s and she needed IV fluid to get her blood pressure stable. This bout of illness arrived quickly and she only vomited once two days ago and then yesterday despite medicating her she started crying and having literal watery diarrhea (all water) and I promptly brought her to one vet who didn’t have the capability to help, and then to this second one, the only one local with an internal medicine specialists daily.

To say I’m worried sick is an understatement, to say I’m embarrassed to ask for help with so many people in the world needing much more than I do, is mortifying. If I’m to be honest we have faced extensive van bills, and now within an additional $5000 in debt that will be owed next month, not including whatever happens in the next week, I don’t have a formidable way to save us and I’m running out of accessible credit to continue taking care of her.

So, with that being said, I am happy to share invoices when we are billed, and I absolutely disdain asking for help in this way, but I need to humbly ask and I am sorry for that.

So far they haven’t ruled out a hairball blockage, but they’re leaning away from it and think that she could potentially have irritable bowel disease or an infectious process. Two years ago they diagnosed her with a bowel infection and ultimately believed it wasn’t IBD when she bounced back with a normal ultrasound.

She will get an ultrasound in the morning and we will hopefully know more then. So far she has had labs drawn, anti-nausea medication, an X Ray, and the doctor was going to do a handheld ultrasound tonight before she left at midnight.

I absolutely hate asking for help in this way please know I don’t take it lightly and my gratitude can’t really be expressed in any sort of words. I know everyone is struggling, and I understand if you can’t help. Please send prayers.
