Please Help Luke Secure Long-Term Housing

Donation protected
Luke is an ex-Marine who served in the infantry. He played college football and baseball. He majored in Nutrition at the State University of New York. Luke has schizophrenia and Traumatic Brain. His TBI was caused by playing football for eight years.

Luke became homeless when his voices became too distracting to stay employable. He had worked two jobs, and was a very hard worker. He hid his condition from his two employers for three years. Since he was not able to get help for years, his illness worsened, and he became unemployable.

My name is Michael. The first time I saw Luke was on the streets of the Upper West Side of New York City during the first winter of the Covid lockdown. He was wearing plastic shoes with no socks and a thin hoodie. We started talking, and I could tell he had a good heart. He told me his story, and we became friends. As a veteran myself with two sons about Luke’s age, I felt compelled to act. I’ve been looking out for him ever since and am fully committed to securing his future and well-being for as long as I can.

I invited Luke to move into my place last year. This is only temporary as my landlord does not want him to stay here, and is now pressuring for a move out date.

Luke’s disability was recently approved. Luke actively participates in his treatment with his psychiatrist. He is 100% compliant with his medications, and has no negative side effects.

Luke’s philosophy of life is: “Make friends, not enemies.” His family is unable to help him, however, he has formed what will be long-lasting friendships.

Because Luke is much younger than me, I am worried that once I’m not around, he will become homeless again. I’d like to help to secure his future now.

All donations will be greatly appreciated. No donation is too small to help. Please do not hesitate to inquire with any questions you have, and, if so inclined, please share.
