Struck down by tragedy and just trying to get by.
Jaz is a loving, caring Mum to Jayda 12, Lariah 9, Corah 8 and little Aaliyah 18 months.
Her family is her life.
7 years ago, Jaz was diagnosed with stomach cancer. After some intensive treatment, Jaz got the all clear, and the family happily moved on with their lives.
On August 16th this year, Jaz was taken to hospital suffering from severe stomach pain.
Jaz had a blockage in her bowel. Thinking she was feeling a little better, Jaz sent Ricky home to check in on the kids. At 4am, Ricky received the worst call of his life. Jaz had taken a turn for the worse and he needed to get there ASAP. Jaz had collapsed in the bathroom and had to have CPR to revive her.
She was under sedation, had tubes coming from everywhere and couldn’t breathe on her own. She was taken for emergency surgery, where they discovered her bowel had twisted and died. Her body was being poisoned. At this stage, the DR’s didn’t know if Jaz would survive or her brain would be damaged. Jaz fought a strong fight and 5 days later she woke. A little disorientated, but thank goodness she was awake. Jaz had another surgery straight away. She needs more surgeries but has to wait at least 3 months before they can be done. During that time, she can’t eat or drink anything by mouth and will remain in hospital away from her family.
Ricky has been a valuable employee to Pirtek Port of Brisbane for the last 12 months since arriving in Aus from NZ. The family had big plans to start a new life. He had to give up his job to care for his 4 children. The hardest job he’s ever had, he says. He takes the kids to school, goes to the hospital, picks the kids up and then heads back to the hospital. He wants the kids to spend as much time as possible with their Mum, to try and keep her spirits up.
Because they are not Australian citizens, they are not entitled to any financial assistance or support. Jaz will be stuck in hospital away from her darling children and husband for at least another 3+ months. Ricky will continue to battle on, looking after the family, with no income.
Please help this loving family. Any donation, no matter how small would be greatly appreciated by the family. They’re just trying to survive day by day.
