Please Help Little Mia and family fight Kidney Failure

Donation protected
Our daughter Mia is facing kidney failure, she just turned 13 this year after we moved across the country, facing becoming a teenager in a new state is a challenge enough, and now our little one is fighting for her health, kind people - we ask for your help please, even as much as spreading the word will help us, as our lives have changed forever and we're at the very beginning of Mia's journey to recovery, to having a normal childhood.

In October, our baby girl was hospitalized with kidney failure - End Stage Renal Disease. On Oct 23rd, Mia was rushed to the ICU, and just like that: our baby is on dialysis.

We still can't believe it's really happening. Mia started out struggling to eat and have an appetite, we originally sought the help of pediatricians and behavioral specialists, and when she started getting sick with constant nausea - we rushed her to a clinic. The doctor did a blood test, and this is where our hearts were broken - he said it’s consistent with low renal function and rushed our little one to the Children’s hospital, where they confirmed what pierced our hearts - our little girl has Kidney Failure.

Day 1 she received two transfusions, a PICC line, a catheter and CRRT - I can't tell you how much pain this is, especially as we were starting our new life, we were getting ready for Halloween and the holidays together in our new city, as we just moved from San Diego, California to Portland, Oregon. All we thought about just a few days back, was how to have fun together, and now each day is a blessing and a challenge, as our lives have changed forever. Mia is a wonderful kid who enjoys the sciences at school, is a talented artist, loves our sweet kitten Mozart, and has an absolutely amazing sense of humor, she loves laughing almost as much as she loves eating snacks… and now we’re faced with a completely limited list of what she can eat.

As parents, it hurts so much to see her holding on and trying to be strong, when all she should be doing is planning hangouts with her friends, school and diving into life unafraid and excited, all we wanted was to grant this happiness to Mia... a chance to be a kid in a new city, a thought that now feels like it evaporated right in front of our eyes. I still can't believe we heard the words "we are going to need to place her on a list for kidney transplant" for the first time in my life I felt blood rush out of my chest, into my stomach. I can tell you Jackie (mom) is not having an easy time, either.

This is during an especially difficult time, as most of our days are spent taking calls after calls from doctors, dialysis clinic crew, social workers, nutritionists, preparing for her 11/22 PD catheter surgery, making plans for recovery while driving from visit to visit, and due to my own health issues as I suffer from Crohn’s disease - I had just left my job right before this happened, and as any parents, now most of our time is dedicated to getting our baby back to health.

Kind people, we ask for your help - we are in dire financial need as bills do not stop just because we have to save our daughter - any help would take us a long way and be so incredibly appreciated, even just passing this on to a friend, as we are on our last savings.

Thank you!

Any of your donations, help and funds will be used to help pay for every step of care for Mia: From the ambulance ride, to the doctors at the hospital, to the blood transfusions, countless specialists to the dialysis clinic and upcoming at-home-dialysis training, while some of the bills are still in progress, we desperately need your help, we are just two parents, both with our own chronic medical issues that are not easy to manage, your help will be crucial in getting us through this time, as we are ready to put every second we have into helping our daughter.

THANK YOU!
