My daughter took her dog, Lito to the dog park she decided to walk on an abandoned overpass. He ended up getting on the ledge and falling into nonstop freeway traffic around 6:30 PM.
Thankfully, a couple saw him running on the freeway, slammed on their brakes and opened their door. Lito hopped right into their car, they took him to the dog shelter where he had been adopted. The shelter called her around 7:40 to let me know that he was found, but needed to go to an emergency vet ASAP.
The moment we pulled up to OSU Vet hospital, they told us we needed to pay at least $500 for him to be seen. They took him back right away to do X-rays and tests, At 10:30pm, they showed us his X-rays. His hip is out of place and the bone was shattered. It can be fixed, but our best option is to amputate the leg.
This option was not only less expensive it also has a better recovery for an active puppy. Our fear was reinjury before shatter femur could heal. The Vet told us dogs with only 3 legs adjust quickly. This morning he was already hopping around well on his good 3 legs.
He will need to rest for about 2 weeks with a cone and then he’ll be ready to learn how to navigate life normally again! The estimated cost is around $5,000. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
