Please help Linda Rodney get back home to Indiana

Hello, my name is Jennifer Hsia, and I’m reaching out to you today on behalf of my beloved mother, Linda Rodney. We find ourselves in a challenging situation, and we humbly ask for your fervent prayers and financial support. Our main goal is to bring Linda safely home from South Carolina to Indiana where she can receive the specialized care and attention she needs. The medical transport alone is a significant financial burden, but it is crucial for her well-being. Additionally, we are faced with growing medical costs and provisions for her family to be by her side.

It all began at a family wedding over Memorial Day weekend in South Carolina. My mother complained of a sinus headache that quickly escalated to left side weakness. We rushed her to the Emergency Department where scans showed there was a significant blood mass and swelling in the right side of her brain, and also a lesion in the left side. We made the decision to undergo emergency brain surgery to remove the blood mass and help to alleviate the swelling.

Fortunately, the surgery was successful, and Linda was soon freed from the ventilator and feeding tube. She remained in the hospital for two weeks, during which time she was diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer that has metastasized to her brain. Currently, she is undergoing intensive rehabilitation at an Acute Rehab Facility in Charleston, SC. She is working hard with physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and cognitive therapy and continues to make slow, but steady progress.

However, the damage to the right side of her brain has left her with significant weakness and potential paralysis on the left side of her body. Simple tasks we often take for granted, such as sitting, standing, rolling over, etc have become extremely difficult and require full assistance.

Yet, our most immediate financial burden is the cost to transport her from South Carolina back home to Indiana. When back in Indiana she will receive care from a team of neurologists, medical oncologists, ENT specialists, and endocrinologists. It is important in her care to be close to family, friends, and her church community while she has a long road ahead.

Considering her present medical situation, it has been determined a medical flight would be the safest and most efficient way to travel back to Indiana. Through the incredible ministry, Grace on Wings, this flight has been offered to us at under half of the cost we were initially quoted (which could reach up to $30,000). Our fundraising goal of $50,000 will not only cover the expense of this medical flight but also alleviate some of the incurred expenses from our stay in South Carolina such as flights, hotels, and rental cars. Moreover, it will provide ongoing care, support, and resources for Linda’s recovery.

Over and over we have seen God’s loving hand in Linda’s journey. We know He is with her every step of the way. We hope and pray for complete healing, but also trust in His divine plan. As Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”
