Hello, my name is Bethany Marini and I am making this GoFundMe account to help out an amazing family with travel expenses due to a medical emergency. His mother, Ashleigh Woods is an amazing person and hasn’t stopped fighting for her child since the day he was born. They have to pay out of pocket for a trip from Germany to DC to have their son assessed because they are unable to do so in Germany. Funds will go to flight, hotels and food while in DC. This is my son Liam. He is six months old. we have been in and out of doctors offices and hospitals since he was one week old. We noticed his three fingers were blue/purple and we were initially told that it was from the ink pad from when they stamped his hand in the hospital that it should go away in a few days. A few months went by then it started to swell in his thumb pointer and middle finger so we took him to the ER, when we got there they thought he had a blood clot in his hand so we went back a week later to get an MRI done, that’s when they told me that it was a mark called hemangioma so he was put on a medication called propranolol (beta blocker) for six weeks, at this time the swelling got worse, and the color of his fingers went from blue and purple to black. I went to the doctor for a second opinion, we were told the same thing so I asked for a third opinion, and again was told the same thing so I asked for a fourth opinion that’s when they told me it’s some thing called Arteriovenous malformation(AVM). AVM is an abnormal tangle of blood vessels that causes problems with the connections between your arteries and veins. With this condition can come genetic defects and mutations so we’ve had to get blood work done to rule out that we are now going to the states to see a vascular anomaly specialist in DC where we will figure out a treatment plan for him to help with this condition
