Please Help Lauren and Her Family During This Time of Need
Dear Friends and Supporters,

I am reaching out with a heavy heart to share the story of my beloved daughter, Lauren, who is currently facing a long road ahead of her to fully recover. After her last infusion for multiple sclerosis, Lauren became critically ill, diagnosed with H1N1 flu that quickly escalated into severe double pneumonia. The series of events that followed began a journey for Lauren that would require her to be in three different TX hospital ICUs and on life support (ECMO machine) to survive. Ultimately, Lauren's journey culminated in her having to have a double lung transplant.
The Journey So Far:
Lauren’s fight has been incredibly tough. She endured multiple cardiac arrests—three episodes in total—and an atrial flutter episode that required cardioversion, a medical treatment using low- energy shock waves to restore normal heart rhythm. Additionally, Lauren suffered from two brain bleeds, two intestinal bleeds, a sepsis blood infection, a hemothorax and a pneumothorax. Overall, she received 20 units of blood due to those complications. Despite those challenges, Lauren fought through them and her fighter, warrior spirit remained strong. Now, having just had a double lung transplant on 11/12/2024 and coming totally off of life support on 11/13/2024, Lauren will need that same fighter, warrior spirit to push herself in order to fully recover from
her surgery. She has already started working with a PT. She can sit up and stand up with assistance and walk using a walker without any. Lauren is also able to tolerate sitting up in the room recliner for between two to three hours at a time.

Why We Need Your Help:
As you can imagine, the costs involved with Lauren being in three separate hospital ICUs could cause a huge financial burden on Lauren and her mom. Lauren is on her mom's insurance and her mom has already started receiving bills from the first hospital ICU that Lauren was admitted too. What additional hospital or possible ancillary bills that may follow is unknown at this time. One of the stipulations that had to be agreed to before Lauren would be approved for a double lung transplant by the hospital, was that someone could and would be with her twenty-four hours a day seven days a week for a period of ninety days. That individual would need to be there to take care of her and help her along with taking her to follow-up appointments and picking up any new or prescription refills that Lauren needed. And since Lauren lives with her mom, she was the logical choice. Lauren's mom, in order to be by Lauren's side every day and most nights since Lauren's first ICU hospitalization, took a leave of absence from work under the FMLA. When her FMLA time expired earlier this month, Lauren was still in critical condition with all of us staying hopeful and praying for Lauren to receive a double lung transplant. Her mom continued to stay by her side as much as allowed which led to the healthcare company she worked for issuing her a separation agreement as they had no work from home opportunities. So at the present time Lauren's mom has no income to pay any outstanding medical bills, monthly cost of living expenses or the Cobra health insurance coverage. We need to ensure that when Lauren is ready to come home, she has a safe, stable and stress free environment in which to recover, with no concerns about having health insurance coverage.
Your Support Matters:
We’re asking for your help—any amount you can contribute will make a significant difference. Your generosity will assist with Lauren’s outstanding medical bills, but also primarily support Lauren's and her mom's monthly cost of living expenses as well as the cost of Cobra health insurance. Lauren's savings are limited and insufficient for her needs. If all goes according to plan and Lauren has not experienced any medical setbacks, once she reaches the ninety day period, she should be able to be left alone during the day so her mom can seek gainful employment again.

Join Us in Spreading the Word:
Please share Lauren’s story on your social media platforms, in your communities, or with anyone who may want to help. The more people who know about Lauren's plight, the greater our chance of gathering the support we need.
Time is of the Essence: With each passing day, Lauren’s need for assistance grows more burdensome. Together, we can help lighten the burden and show her and her mother that we truly care.
From the depths of our hearts, thank you for your compassion and support. Together, we can make a positive difference in the life of Lauren and her mother.
