Let’s help Lana walk again!

Lana is my two year-old, 20 lbs, miniature goldendoodle. She’s sassy, spunky, and stubborn but also the most adorable and affectionate little doog around. She's my darling, baby girl. My constant ray of sunshine. My whole world.

A few days ago, during a morning walk in High Park, Lana suffered a life-altering injury that left her paralyzed with a dislocated spine, unable to use any of her legs. It was the most terrible, tragic and unfortunate incident you could possibly imagine. Sadly, it did involve another, much larger dog who in an act of dominance, bit and shook Lana by the neck causing her injuries.

Immediate veterinarian care and diagnostic imaging suggested that emergency surgery was the only option if Lana were ever to have any hope of walking again. Of course I opted to give her the best and only chance of being a healthy, happy, normal dog again.

Her youth, good prior health and tenacious spirit meant that she made it to the other side of the 7+ hour surgery that put her broken spine back together. The doctor was pleased with how it all went and Lana’s prognosis is positive. She is currently recovering in the animal ICU but still has a very long, tough and difficult road ahead...

As you can probably imagine, emergency veterinary care including surgery isn’t cheap. The current tab is $20,000 (initial intake, screening, X-rays, CT scan, stabilization, IV, sedation, neurosurgery, ICU care) and still growing. Some will say it’s silly, ridiculous even, to spend that much money on an animal. Those people don’t have pets. And they certainly don’t know Lana!

I plan to give Lana absolutely everything to ensure she gets the time, attention, care and unconditional love she will need to make a successful recovery. Anything you can give to assist in this endeavour would be truly and most greatly appreciated. Thank you!
