Kim's Story
Kim is a very loving wife and mother, at only 31 she's been through quite a few hurdles in life. Kim was a single mother for many years to her son Carson, working FT and attending school PT, she struggled and pushed to succeed and realized her career aspirations of working in finance. Kim has worked extremely hard to get her career to where she wants it to be in order to ensure the best possible future for her son and family.
Kim and I met online and realized we were soulmates, we were engaged in less than a year and married in May of 2016. My son Jaiden and Carson became very close, the family was finally complete! Life was finally starting to get easier! ... until 3 months later when Kim experienced an unexpected seizure in August 2016 and was taken to hospital where they found a mass in her brain. The mass turned out to be a brain tumour, a craniotomy was performed in November 2016 to remove the tumour and take a sample for pathology. When the pathology results came back, it was diagnosed as Grade 3 brain cancer (anaplastic astrocytoma). Due to the type of tumour (star-shaped cells) it was impossible for the surgeon to remove all of the tumour, but removed as much of it as possible.
Kim was prescibed daily chemo and radiation treatments to aggressively treat any remaining tumour cells. These treatments finished in March 2017, Kim is now on her next round of chemo which is expected to last for about one year. Kim's EI sickness (short term disability) benefits have run out and it is unknown when she will be able to return to work due to the ongoing chemo treatments and her health. She does not have any long term disability coverage and the family is in a financial crunch. We need help getting through this awful time and appreciate any help at all from the community. This funding will help alleviate financial stress and help Kim fight this cancer and not have to worry about money. If any funds are remaining we will donate them to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada to help research this ugly disease in hopes of finding a cure.
