Hi, my name is Keith Shepard. I am 59 yrs old and married for 13 yrs to the love of my life, Rosalind. We are truly Blessed and grateful for all of those Blessings.
This part of my journey and my decision to go this route, follows a lot of Prayer. You see, we have always tried to stay on the giving end.
Last year, after borrowing money to pay off a few credit cards. We vowed to not use them. Then, I had some liver issues come up. Some spots that needed to be addressed. In the meantime my GI doctor wanted me to have a colonoscopy, that turned into 2 colonoscopies and an endoscopy. Was told, I had high blood pressure at that time. But, I didn't have a primary doctor. We continued, with checking the liver ultrasound, scan, MRI and finally a liver biopsy! I had too promise I would address the high blood pressure so they would do the biopsy. Got a regular doctor, put me on blood pressure medicine, drew some blood. Called 3 days later, said my PSA's are high, sent me to a urologist.
By now I had reached maximum out of pocket of $5000. But, you know there is always other odds and ends that have to be met. All being put on credit cards. Thank God for them. As it turns out, my liver and colon are both fine. But, a much different outcome with the urologist. After doing a prostate biopsy it is determined that I, indeed, have Prostate Cancer.
Now, the year is starting over, as well as my out of pocket costs. Needless to say, these procedures are not cheap. We have to meet another $5000 plus. I had to go through 28 radiation treatments, which I did, successfully. My last treatment was Friday the 13th of March!
One week after starting radiation, the HVAC unit at home went out completely! To the tune of $7000! Thank God for credit cards? You bet.
I am truly Blessed, I never missed a day of work. I am still extremely fatigued, and hot flashing like crazy from the hormone therapy . Lol. But, It's All Good! I know, so many people, going through worse situations than mine. I've told my wife, from the start that I wasn't worried, or anxious, because I Truly Believe that God's Got This!
I will have blood drawn April 21st, go back the 26th for results with my urologist. Then have a follow up with my oncologist to see where we are at physically. A lot of Prayer Warriors working overtime, from here to France. I am truly Thankful for each and every one of them. I realize, by sharing my experiences, that I AM NOT unique!
What my specific Prayer for now, by taking this step, is maybe get some relief from the unexpected costs, of close to $20,000 we have unexpecredly incurred.
