Please Help Keep Our Animal Sanctuary Open

We're appealing for urgent help.

Many of our animals here at the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre are retirees and need that extra special help and care. We firmly believe in providing the best possible care for all of our animals - but that comes at a cost. Our veterinary bills are always high, food, water and hay costs a lot and we struggle to find all the money for everything else. 


Recently one of our horses (Dante - Friesian) had become quite poorly with his breathing and blood tests  revealed a liver issue so he was referred to Oakham Veterinary Hospital for further tests, he was diagnosed with severe asthma and requires a nebuliser & inhaler daily as well as soaked hay. He also had a liver biopsy and will require monthly ongoing blood tests to monitor his levels. So far it has cost over £3000 just for Dantes veterinary bills alone. We’ll post more about Dantes journey soon.

We are run entirely by dedicated volunteers and have no paid members of staff. Our volunteers have continued providing much needed care for the animals during the pandemic.

So we're asking for any form of donation, it really doesn't matter how much, it all helps provide our animals with the care they deserve.

Without urgent help we might not be able to continue offering the resident animals here at the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre their forever home. 

Our sanctuary would also normally welcome visitors and offer them a chance to meet our resident animals and see first-hand the work we do. But, due to the current global emergency we are heavily impacted by loss of tourism and visitor donations.  Our aim is to reopen in May, but there is currently a strong chance we could run out of money before then.
