Hi, my name is Kearstin Coleman, I am doing this fundraiser because on Thursday January 20th my 7 month old daughter and I got into a very scary car accident. I was at my moms house visiting with her, while we were there it began to snow. I decided I should get going so I could make it home in time for my oldest daughter to get home from school. When I left my moms and was driving it didn’t take long before my car started to fish tail. I was trying to keep my wheel straight and I was pushing on my break but my car was sliding to much in the snow to stop. Before I knew it we were crossing into the other lane and then all at once we were upside down with my car in a ditch. I was staring down at water that was starting to come into my car. All I could think about was if my baby girl was okay and how I needed check on her. I was able to unbuckle myself and climb to the back where my daughter was still buckled tightly in her car seat. Feel a bit of relief, I proceeded to then call my mom, since I wasn’t even a mile away from her house, to let her know we had crashed into the ditch upside down and water was getting into my car. I was terrified, but all that I could think about was how am I going to save my baby!? I unlatched her from the base and was holding the car seat up so I could keep her out of the water. Knowing our only way out of the car was to push the car door open, that’s what I did, but then water rushed into my car and for a second I thought this was the end. Now my car was full of water, I had my face up against the top where there was little space with no water. I wanted to panic but I knew that we really needed to get out, now! We had to go under water for a couple seconds to get out of the car but once we were out I was able to get us to a shallow area. I rested the car seat on a pile of weeds and mud and got my baby out of the seat to make sure she was fine. By that time my mom had gotten to the scene and was able to climb down the embankment a bit so I could hand off my baby. Once she had her, they headed to her car to try and keep her warm, since we were soaking wet. Shortly after a gentleman on a tractor pulled up and was able to pull me out of the ditch. He then helped me walk to my moms car to sit down while we waited for the ambulance, but it wasn’t long before it was driving down the road. We then got into the ambulance, got our wet close off and headed to the hospital to get checked out.
Thank our Heavenly Father above for giving me the strength I need to get my baby and I out of the car. We do not have any major injuries but my car is totaled and everything I had with me and in my car is now gone and or ruined. I lost my glasses, wallet; that had quite a bit of cash in it, diaper bag, purse, etc., this fundraiser is to help me replace what I had lost in this horrible accident. I appreciate all and any support given. Thank you!!
