Please Help Kabuki For Her Surgery

Please Help Kabuki (pictured on the left) to have surgery to repair the ruptured cruciate ligaments in both of her back legs.

Hi everyone,

My name is Sinead Disaya. My partner Alex and I are trying to raise funds for our fur-baby, Kabuki, a 2.5 years old Siberian Husky. Kabuki desperately needs to have surgery for both of her back legs as she's ruptured both cruciate ligaments (ACLs) in her knees and has also possibly torn the meniscus.

For those who know me, you'll already know that my dogs are my whole world.

A couple of months ago, we noticed that Kabuki was limping with a sore left leg but didn't see what happened. We kept an eye on it to see if it would get better, but it didn't appear to be healing on its own.
We booked her into Moffat Beach Vet in Caloundra, QLD (07 5491 1056), and they suspected she's injured her cruciate ligaments but couldn't be sure without an x-ray.
A few days before her x-ray appointment, we witnessed Kabuki playing with her older brother, Keeko, in the backyard as she let out a heartbreaking scream.
It appeared she had now injured both of her back legs, and now her right leg was worse than her left. Apparently when one cruciate ligament has ruptured, there's a 50% chance the opposite leg will also rupture due to over-compensating.

We had her x-rayed the next day, and it was clear that Kabuki had now ruptured both of her cruciate ligaments with the possibility of also tearing the meniscus off the bone.

They recommended we speak to the North Coast Veterinary Emergency surgeons in Sippy Downs, QLD, ASAP about what needs to happen for Kabuki.

We spoke with the surgeon on Friday 28th January 2022, where he examined Kabuki and could see she was in pain.
A few days before this vet appointment, we noticed that we could now actually hear Kabuki's back legs making a popping noise every time she walked. This sound is what makes the surgeon also suspect that she's torn the meniscus in her knees.

The surgeon explained if we didn't have the surgery, within 2-3 months, Kabuki would start to develop arthritis in her joints.

As Kabuki has injured both of her legs, she must have two separate surgeries. She needs surgery on her worst leg first, then 4-5 weeks later, she must have surgery on the left leg to help her recovery.

In her first surgery, Kabuki will also need her blood tested to check her organs and avoid any potential risks going ahead with the surgeries.

Kabuki's first surgery would cost around $6,500 and her second surgery around $6,000, so a minimum of $12,500 for the surgeries.

We are also aware there could be other unexpected costs that could occur. We also, unfortunately, do not have any Pet Insurance. We looked into it and saw a minimum six-month waiting period for cruciate ligaments.

We have already spent over $1000+ on vet visits and x-rays to date.

There was no question for us when it came to booking the surgery for Kabuki. She needs this surgery, or her life will be horrible for having arthritis at such a young age. She is such a happy puppy with so much love to give! We'll do anything to give her the best life possible.

We have booked her for the earliest appointment for her surgery on 9th February 2022 at North Coast Veterinary Specialists in Sippy Downs, QLD. Their contact number is 07 5453 7555. Please feel free to contact them to confirm everything.

Kabuki is my little girl, and I love her more than anything! I love both Keeko and Kabuki more than words can ever explain. They bring us so much joy and have been there for my tough times.
It's heartbreaking seeing her in pain and not being able to tell her what's wrong and that we're going to help fix her.
She is still happy and eating, which the vet said is a good sign, but she hasn't gone for a walk in almost one month now, making her very frustrated.

I genuinely wish I was in a better financial position myself, but I am still recovering from almost two years in the Melbourne lockdowns.
I was also let go on Thursday 27th January 2022 from the job I moved up here for because I stood up for myself and my Sales Team against a horrible gym owner. So I'm in between jobs right and hoping to have something sorted very soon. This hasn't helped with the timing of Kabuki needing surgery.

Kabuki means the world to us! We'd do anything for her so she could live her best life and want to see her being a happy little puppy again. For such a small husky, she has the biggest heart and personality! We just love her so much and want her healthy again.

We understand we're asking for a considerable amount and don't expect to reach our target at all, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could contribute, no matter how big or small.

Please SHARE this page with your family and friends!

We'll keep you all posted with updates on Kabuki.

Thank you so much for your help.

Sinead, Alex, Keeko and Kabuki xx
