My name is Ciera, and I’m the proud mom of a determined little boy named Josiah. From the very start of his life, he has faced challenges no child should ever have to endure, but through it all, he has remained strong, resilient, and full of joy.

Josiah is a twin who survived shaken baby syndrome at the hands of his father. That trauma left him with brain damage and a long list of medical challenges. Still, Josiah has continued to push forward with a strength that amazes me every single day.

Later, while I was working to provide for my family, Josiah was placed under the care of a nursing agency. I installed cameras in our home, and to my horror, I saw a nurse strike him. Her excuse was that she had “a bad day.” No child should ever be treated this way.

Yet Josiah keeps smiling. He laughs, he loves, and he fights for every milestone. He has been dealt some of the hardest cards life can give, but he has never given up.

Now Josiah has the chance to attend intensive therapy in Canada, a program that can help him gain mobility, build strength, and give him a better quality of life. As his mom, I will do everything I can to get him there, but I can’t do it alone.
