Please help JoanMarie with her new bathroom!
Donation protected
As most of you know Joan-Marie has been suffering from stage four metastatic breast cancer for over two years. In recent months she has been losing her ability to get around. A couple months ago I had to have a ramp built so that we could get her out to the car to go to medical appointments. More recently she has been falling while going to and from the bathroom. I help her every step of the way, of course, but still her legs are too weak. After several trips to the emergency ward and brief stays in the hospital, she has been placed in a nursing home where they are trying to help her learn to walk.
Meanwhile it has become clear that we need a new bathroom. The one we are using has a rotten floor and is too small for Joan-Marie to bathe. There is another unused bathroom off the living room which would be easier for her to access. Unfortunately it is also in poor shape – we never hooked it up because the foundation is crumbled. It is also too small. We have hired the contractor who did the ramp to rip out the unused bathroom and replace it with something a little bigger. The will allow for a shower large enough for Joan-Marie to sit in while she is being bather. It will also allow enough room for her to get in and out of the bathroom with a walker.
Unfortunately I have run out of money and need a lot of help to pay for this project which will cost $25,000. For the last two years I have been putting away money, including the various Covid relief payments and other money accumulated just by reducing expenses to a minimum. Most of this money went to pay for the ramp. I also managed to get a reconditioned Generac generator as we cannot afford to be without power since Joan-Marie is on oxygen.
Therefore I have created this go-fund-me page in the hope that you can help pay for the expense that now overwhelms me. I know some of you are probably not able to give and others can give only a little, but any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. There is some urgency to this as the nursing home is hoping to send her home in a couple of week. Therefore I was able to get some emergency funds to get the construction going, but most of the money needed is lacking.
