Jim Wilson – a.k.a. Jimmy, JimBob, Smoke – a dear friend to many, could use our help. The other day I was admiring his truck (see video below) and commenting on what a difference it’s made in his daily life. He said, “Yeah, but I’m gonna have to turn it back in.” I pressed for details and discovered he’s unable to keep up with the payments. This truck provides him with independence and freedom, getting him to appointments, grocery shopping, hauling firewood, etc.
I’ve known Jim for about ten years and have NEVER ONCE heard him complain about his disability. In 1999, at the age of 21, he was driving on a rural Oregon highway, when he had a life-changing accident, which left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Jim is kind, humble and hard working. He lives extremely frugally. I’ve asked him many times – if money weren’t an issue, what would you do? Without hesitation, he answers. His dream is to be able to help others with disabilities. Passionate about custom work – converting motorcycles to trikes, he hopes to enable disabled riders to ride again. He truly is one of the most selfless people I know. Helping Jim is one of those acts of kindness that will be paid forward many times over.
p.s. Jim also designs and builds beautiful rough cut furniture. This is another source of income. You can see his work and custom order furniture at roughcutsfurniture.com.
