Please help Jewel,
She's getting older.
We all are.
A few weeks ago , she slipped and fell on the tile and busted her bony little bum on the floor
She wound up with a small wound on her bum in a very inconvenient place (because of course , that's close to the area where she pees and poops.)
It was being kept clean with antibiotics and as I planned on spending new years with friends in New York, I figured that the vet she boards at would be able to give her wound care during her stay.
Unfortunately, the vet also was on holiday until yesterday, the 6th.
During her boarding by the second day, the vet technicians called me and told me that her condition was deteriorating.
She had an infection that was spreading, she was unable to walk and was refusing to eat .
This required her to be removed back to home where my housemates provided her in home care.
It looked very bad for her and looked like it was the end of the road.
I got her to the vet yesterday.
The wound now has a massive infection and there now is an additional open wound on the inside of her right leg as well.
Her entire right hind leg and foot was swollen hugely.
She also has developed a UTI
(ugh, double ugh)
Happily,I can report that she is already responding to treatment.
BUT because it is after the holidays, I am completely BROKE
My employer was kind enough to bail me out with the vet bill, which turned out to be rather modest, a little over $600
But I must pay him back.
Also , there is the likelihood of follow up care and Rx
So now I am doing something I have never done before.
Many people go on social media etc asking for money for all sorts of nonsense.
I have always prided myself at taking care of my own affairs
However, this is my pet.
My child.
Her well being is important.
Please... if you can afford to, throw a little money in the pot to try to offset her medical expenses and hopefully to permit her follow-up care.
Happily she is already responding very well to a strong antibiotic, pain medication and proper medical grade wound care. This is excellent news!
She still needs help getting to her feet but now can walk unassisted and is eating well.
She has a long road to recovery but thankfully I have wonderful people in my household who also love her and are being supportive with her care.
Obviously this is NOT a "public" gofundme.
There is such a thing as dignity.
It is only being shared with friends and acquaintances that will help if they can.
