I am asking for help on behalf of my friend, Jennie and her daughter, Sophia. I know it is always hard to ask for help, but Jennie is in a serious custody battle and this one she cannot fight alone on a teacher salary. The kind of support she needs requires money she doesn’t have, and the judge refused a court-appointed attorney. Sophia’s father is trying to take full custody after Jennie has raised her alone for Sophia’s entire life. There are court documents proving he had little contact with her the first years of her life. He and his family are wealthy and have the means to pay an attorney. Also, he and his family are well known in their small town community where jurisdiction resides. He is President of the Chamber of Commerce. Therefore, she needs to gather enough money to have adequate representation and hopefully assure a fair outcome for Sophia’s best interests. She is already in debt from previous attorney fees, and she just cannot afford the upfront fees along with other attorney fees that will continue to arise.
