Please note : see most recent update. And this message - I-man ( Jawara sadly lost his fight with stomach cancer November 29, 2024. We are asking for your assistance to help the family with funeral expenses. Thanking you in advance for donating, sharing and caring . 100% of funds were going to I-man for chemo treatment and now funds 100% go to his sister Aisha who is organizing everything for Iman in his passing.

We raised $8700 before he passed and the new amount reflects $4300 we are trying to raise for celebration of Imans life and funeral expenses.

Original post at time of I-man diagnosis;
my name is Monique de La Tour and I am fundraising for my longtime family friend Jawara Murdock, a young man I have known since 1992 . I have been close friends with his parents since 1982. I have watched him grow from very humble beginnings. He is 31 now and has overcome so much in his young life. At the age of 13 Jawara lost his leg to bone cancer and since then has beaten insurmountable odds to thrive and inspire others. He recently graduated with a four year Bachelor of
Pharmacy Degree. He also has a small business working with honey bees, building his own hives and selling the honey. He collected wild bees from trees (with one leg) to get this started. He farms with his father in the country, assisting him on the land. This helps you understand his determination to not allow anything to stop him from making progress in life. He is a humble and kind young man, who is a treasure to Jamaica and beyond. Jawara and I were vendors together at the Maroon Conference in June of this year in Charles Town, Jamaica where he sold his honey, and I my crafts. At this festival he wasn't feeling so great, he complained of stomach pains to me. The main photo is from this festival. We speak frequently, and he has told me of feeling very unwell lately, having to cease participating in an internship in Kingston. Jawara has had to visit doctors in the past month to learn why the pains in his stomach won't go away. Unfortunately he has now been diagnosed with stomach cancer, and doctors have informed him he needs chemotherapy immediately. The public hospital in Kingston does not have a budget to cover chemotherapy for poor people who have the diagnosis he has. He has malignant tumors that need to be targeted by chemotherapy asap. He needs to raise US $1300 (JA$179,500) immediately by Saturday in order to start treatment in Kingston with a private medical facility. I am trying to raise $1500 for him so he can get the help he desperately needs. 100% of funds are going directly to Jawara Murdock to pay for chemotherapy and travel and food expenses. It is difficult to save any money in Jamaica due to the wages being extremely low. (national minimum wage being a total of US $57 for a 40 hour work week) Anything donated is greatly appreciated. Please share this campaign as soon as you can, even if you cannot donate. Thank you so much for caring and sharing, we need Jawara, he is a shining light to so many in Jamaica, especially to young people. He is courageous and he will fight this and needs your help urgently to do so. Please pray for him and thank you again,

Sincerely,
Monique deLaTour
