You never really know when you hit the end of your tether until it smacks you in the face. I won’t give some long spiel about suffering bc I don’t know anybody who isn’t — but I’m scared I’m going to end up out on the street sooner rather than later. I’m selling as many of my possessions as possible, lost count of the number of applications sent, I’m still no less disabled or immunocompromised but still putting myself out there applying to higher risk (for me) work.
Long story short - I need help both paying my rent and affording medicine and food for the summer. I’m down to one meal a day to save what money I have. I had 2000$ worth of income pulled out from under me with little explanation. Of course the food bank I attend, and used to donate to in better times, is being displaced in mixed income neighbourhood.
In full transparency, I am asking for help with
790$ to pay off the remainder of the rent at my old place,
1042$ to pay off rent due for 1,5 months at my new place,
the remainder is to pay off GFM fees, make sure I have enough medicine and basic foodstuffs to last me the month, and ideally towards a van rental to help move possessions I physically can’t. But that’s second to being able to eat and have a roof over my head.
Thank you in advance to anyone who is able to help out in any way, please do not feel obliged if you are also struggling — it so often is other poor or low income people that are the very first to donate. I feel about an inch tall asking for help in this way, but if I don’t say I don’t receive - and nobody deserves to be shamed for asking for help. Any anger should be directed to the systems that led us to use these systems en masse, the fact that GFM could well be one of the top medical insurers in North America speaks more to the systems we live under than any individual action.
