After being contacted by Jai’s mum for some advice on going night fishing, as it was on his bucket list, the least I could do was invite them on my social and provide them with all the gear they needed to make this happen. Not only did he absolutely love it, he even managed to catch 3 carp including a personal best. It was an emotional weekend, as I got to know Jai more and the full extent to his story…

Jai’s Story: At such a young age of 23, Jai unfortunately is battling leukaemia which is untreatable and has only been given a couple of months to live. Just a few days before the social Jai was in hospital as they had to remove a load of blood clots, 2 stents in his leg were blocked and he had another in his other leg and one in the kidney.

Even though Jai had been through all of this, he told me there was nothing going to stop him from coming to the social.

A message from Jai’s mum received a couple of days before the social: “I’ll say this for sure, if it wasn’t for this fishing trip, I think he would have died. You’ve given him something to fight for, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
