Please help, fully paralyzed from car accident

I am reaching out to you today on behalf of my father, Jacky Luo, someone very dear to our hearts who is facing an immense medical challenge. We are starting this GoFundMe campaign to rally support and offer hope during this difficult time.

On June 15, 2023, my father was involved in a severe car accident that changed our lives in an instant. He was a passenger in a vehicle on his way to a massage therapist to seek relief for his back pain. As they entered an intersection near our house, an SUV ran a red light and collided with their vehicle. The driver of the SUV was under the influence of drugs, making the situation even more devastating. The impact was significant, causing their car to veer off the road and crashed onto the lawn of the Church by the intersection. My father lost consciousness immediately upon impact. His skull briefly disconnected from his spinal cord, resulting in a brain injury and complete paralysis.

During this traumatic event, a compassionate bystander acted swiftly, administering CPR and successfully reviving my father. He was then admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition, receiving life-sustaining therapies while being intubated.

Jacky is confronted with a serious intracranial and spinal cord injury. The clinical and radiographic evidence points to a condition known as the Locked-In syndrome, a result of his traumatic experience and instantaneous damage to his brainstem. As a consequence, he is completely paralyzed, except for vertical eye movements. Unfortunately, there is no known treatment to reverse this condition. Furthermore, the damage to the medulla of his brainstem has led to a loss of his ability to breathe and swallow, necessitating the use of a ventilator and intubation for his survival, unless a miracle occurs. This condition has had a profound impact on his daily life, making it challenging to engage in normal activities and pursue his dreams and aspirations. The recommended course of treatment is both lengthy and expensive, requiring frequent medical appointments, ongoing care, and the crucial need for a specialized nursing care facility for rehabilitation.

I am asking for your support to ease the financial strain and allow my father to focus on what matters most – his health and recovery. Your generous donations will directly contribute to covering medical expenses, including doctor consultations, diagnostic tests, surgeries, medications, physical therapy, the cost of a specialized nursing care facility, and any additional treatments deemed necessary.
