One month ago, our 16-year-old cousin Izrael Abramchayev was hit by a Public bus while riding his electric scooter. The impact was so severe it left him in a coma for two weeks. When he finally opened his eyes, he woke up to a reality no child should ever face: he could no longer breathe, speak, eat, stand, or even use the bathroom on his own. He has had to begin the impossible task of relearning how to live one breath, one word, one movement at a time.
Izrael has just begun rehabilitation, and every small step forward takes enormous strength.
Today, he speaks only with great difficulty. He is still fed through a tube. He cannot walk. He cannot use the bathroom independently. He is bedridden. He is currently blind, and doctors hope his vision may return within the next six months. His recovery will be long, exhausting, and incredibly demanding but there is hope. Izrael is fighting, and he is making progress.
This tragedy has devastated a family already carrying more than any parent or child should. Israel’s mother, Julia, has raised him alone since he was six. She is his only parent, his only advocate and now, his nurse, caretaker, and full-time aide—while also battling Lupus herself.
She cannot work. She is overwhelmed physically, emotionally, and financially.
Julia’s partner, Igor, stands by her side every day, helping her care for Izrael and supporting the family through an unbearable reality. Together, they are doing everything they can to keep Izrael alive, safe, and moving forward—but they cannot do this alone.
Izrael needs a full-time professional aide so he can receive the constant care his condition requires. And Julia needs the ability to return to work, to breathe, to take care of her own health so she can continue caring for her son.
This family is fighting with everything they have—but right now, they have nothing left to give. If you can help—even in the smallest amount—you are not just donating money. You are giving Izrael a chance to recover. You are giving Julia and Igor the strength and support they desperately need. You are giving this family hope at a time when hope feels impossible.
Please help Izrael relearn life and help this family stand back up.
