At just 24 years of age, Jorjie Kelb, a very much loved partner, daughter, sister, auntie, granddaughter and friend was diagnosed with a large pituitary tumour that was bleeding in her brain. After suffering a migraine and partial paralysis, she was unable at the time to speak or even swallow.
After being flown to Melbournes St Vincents, the tumour was discovered and that was the start of Jorjie and her partner Lukes' world being turned upside down.
The neuro-surgeons decided that surgery was too risky as she could be at risk of a stroke, losing her sight or a blood clot. Since then (just before Christmas) Jorjie has had numerous emergency trips to hospital (3 hours drive away) and has had 4 bleeds from the tumour. She has now developed Addisons Disease (very uncommon) where her Adrenal glands have been damaged and has also developed diabetes insipidous. Just a month after being diagnosed, Jorjie has lost 32% of her vision, causing her to have to put her Uni studies on hold for now.
Last week, Jorjies team of neuro-surgeons and endocrinologist made the decision that the risk of not having surgery far outweighs the risk of having surgery and so tomorrow Jorjie has her over the phone pre-admission for surgery.
3 days ago, on top of everything else, someone smashed into the side of Jorjies parked car and did a lot of damage. This car is her only means of emergency transport to hospital. Due to only being able to work for a couple of hours a week due to fatigue and illness, they cannot afford the cost of ambulances in Victoria. Her partner Luke has had a lot of time off from his casual job, driving Jorjie the 3 hours to hospital and taking her to all of the on-going medical appointments.
I have set up this fund-raising page in the hope of supporting Jorjie and Luke through this incredibly difficult and stressful time to help relieve some of the financial stress due to the loss of income and damage to their car.
Any donation, however small or even the sharing of this page will make an incredible difference to help relieve a little of their stress and help in Jorjies recovery. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated by Jorjie, Luke and everyone that knows and loves her.
Thankyou to everyone for all of your love and support of Jorjie as she prepares to kick this tumours butt!
