Thursday, August 27th, Alan "Hevy Duty" Stevenson underwent emergency neurosurgery for a hemorrhagic stroke. He is stable and recovering at Lions Gate in North Van.

Hevy began exhibiting early symptoms on Wednesday, the 26th, and the following day he lost movement ability in the left side of his body. He was immediately admitted to Squamish General and transferred to Lions Gate for an emergency craniotomy, performed by Dr. Mendelsohn (to whom Hevy's family and friends are extremely grateful). The surgery was successful, but Hevy remains in intensive care.

Hevy's road to recovery is significant, but anyone who knows Hevy know's he's tough as hell. And if you're fortunate enough to know him, you also know he's an almost impossibly kind soul. When help is needed, Hevy's there, no questions asked.

He'd show up for us, and now he needs us to show up for him. As a visitor, Hevy is unfortunately not covered under health insurance, and emergency neurosurgery, ICU time, ambulance, and other ancillary costs are substantial.

We are raising funds for Hevy to cover his current medical costs, and the next year of care, medications, physio, and other related medical expenses.

Hevy has impacted climbers and friends around the world, from the UK, to Yosemite, to the desert southwest, to Colorado, to Squamish. If you've ever climbed one of his routes, spent a day at one of his many classic crags, hiked the many trails he maintains in the Smoke Bluffs, or just basked in awe at one of his shirts or huuping skills, please consider donating.

Any amount will help.
