Please help give relief to the Biggs family

Hello! With humble hope, we are starting this GoFundMe to provide some much needed relief and assistance for our parents, Robert and Sandy Biggs. Our mom, Sandy, went in for a standard hip replacement surgery on January 31st. Unfortunately, she suffered a massive infection that put her back in the hospital. She had a procedure to clean out the infection but it did not work. They then replaced the original hip with a temporary antibiotic-lined hip, but that one didn't fit well and broke off a piece of her bone. After 6 weeks of so much pain and struggle, she had her 4th and final hip replacement surgery. She was then transferred to rehab and after only a couple of days, she was readmitted to the hospital with major pain in her arm. Turned out she had a blood clot that was causing the pain. Once that was taken care of, she was back in rehab and making great progress. She FINALLY made her way home walking with a walker on April 17th.

After only a few days, on April 23rd, Mom had another big setback. She fell while she was home and 911 was called. She was rushed to the hospital to make sure nothing was broken and there were no other issues. Luckily she did not break anything or cause new injuries in the fall, but they found she has elevated calcium levels in her blood which need to be controlled before she could be released. She was in a lot of pain and it took a while to get control over it.

In a good step forward, Mom made it back to rehab on May 1st after her calcium levels were under control. Unfortunately, we learned that our parents’ insurance does not cover a home health aide, which is what Mom will need when she finally makes it home. She is so weak (she has mostly been on bed rest for the past 3 months) and needs significant physical assistance to do daily tasks. Dad has his own injuries and cannot physically support her. He also just needs rest.

Although Mom has been a total champ, all of this has worn both her and Dad down. Dad practically lives his entire days at the hospital with Mom. We have created this GoFundMe to open pathways to help our parents through this very difficult time. Mom’s recovery is going to take a much longer amount of time than we ever expected.
