This GoFundMe is for Gina Loukareas, who is the direct beneficiary. About Gina: Gina is one of those people who is always there for others, is the first to respond when you're in a bad spot, who helps without questions or judgment. She’s the kind of person who will send a friend a full Thanksgiving meal when she finds out they will be alone that day. The kind that will buy your kid an XBox for Christmas when you can’t afford presents. The kind that will hugely overpay you for a small task because she knows you’re hurting. She’s one of those people. She's also the kind of person who rarely asks for help. So for her to agree to this GoFundMe on her behalf is a reflection of how serious her current situation is. Why She Needs Help: Short Version: She is disabled but living independently with in-home care. She needs a bridge to help cover her expenses through May. At that point, she will be able to cover her expenses herself. Long Version: Everyone goes through rough patches, but the past few years have been more like a minefield for Gina. I know she deserves help. She has been through hell the past few years: losing her mother to brain cancer, then Gina was diagnosed with kidney cancer and late stage rheumatoid arthritis, she has been unable to walk since 2022, then after the death of her father the same year, she was confined to a rehab hospital for 2 years that was so abusive and negligent, they were heavily penalized by federal authorities the same year she finally got out. She is now living in an ADA accessible apartment but her monthly out-of-pocket costs have increased dramatically. I mean, that’s quite a load for one person to carry. Background and Timeline: 2013: Gina was living with her parents and caring for her mother who was going through brain cancer treatment. 2017: After four years Gina’s mother dies of a Glioblastoma 2018: Gina started experiencing debilitating pain in her hands and legs. These symptoms worsened with each passing year. 2021: Gina goes to ER for an unrelated issue and receives an unexpected diagnosis of Clear Cell Renal Carcinoma--a type of kidney cancer. 2022: July: Gina’s father dies suddenly in their home. A BioHazard Team treating the room he died in discovers black mold inside the walls. Gina is faced with an ongoing mold remediation treatment of the house. 2022: August: Gina is diagnosed with end-stage (meaning most severe, not fatal) rheumatoid arthritis. She is unable to walk, raise her arms above her chest, and her hands become disfigured. 2022-2024: Gina lives in a rehab hospital for two years with very little improvement. The hospital is fined a penalty of $250K by Medicare and federal officials for 63 separate severe offenses and deficiencies across every category. 2025: Gina moves into an ADA accessible apartment with daily in-home care visits. She feels safe and at home. Now she can move forward with treatment for her cancer. 2026: Gina’s out-of-pocket medical costs have increased to the point where she will need to sell her parent’s home asap in order to stay in her ADA accessible apartment and afford her ongoing care. This is where we come in. Anything you can contribute to Gina to get her through til May would be most appreciated. Thank you, one and all. How Funds Will Be Used: Funds raised will go directly to Gina to: Pay 4 months of out-of-pocket expenses (not covered fully by insurance) while she recovers from an upcoming surgery. The medical expenses include physical therapy, visiting nurse, medical supplies, prescriptions, and other in-home care.
