Please help Mom travel to Panama for MS treatment
Donation protected
In December of 2013, Lisa woke up and couldn't get out of bed. Carl and her knew something was wrong and decided to go to the doctor where they gave her an MRI. A neurologist reviewed the MRI and diaganosed her with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). They immediately began a round of shots for a year where there was no progress. Eventually, the insurance company approved a monthly IV, which she is currently doing. This IV has helped the MS to not progress, but she still experiences flare ups bi-weekly. She has trouble walking short distances and is in a wheel chair when in public.
MS is a diabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). The immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Some people with severe MS may lose the ability to walk independetly or ambulate at all. There are no cures, but after several years of research, we have decided that the next course of action will be to try a Stem Cell Treatment in Panama. We're hoping this treatment will repair the cells and give her the ability to walk again.
This fundraiser will help with the travel expenses to Panama, meals, lodging and the treatment. Our goal is to go this Summer. My parents appreciate any funds you're able to donate. We will update the page accordingly as we book the trip and make our way to Panama!
