Hi, my name is Karen, and Marina Holiday, Tony and I are fundraising for my family and people in the Philippines, whose houses were destroyed by the recent typhoon. Specifically for my hometown, Biasong , Talisay Cebu Philippines.
WHAT HAPPENED?
- Mid-December 2021 Super Typhoon Rai/Odette obliterated most of their house and destroyed their ROOF! They have no bathroom anymore either.
- More than 300,000 people in its path were evacuated due to the magnitude of this natural disaster!
- Rai sustained winds of 121 miles per hour and gusts of up to 168 mph!
(Photo of house damage)

My grandmother, Alice, father, Ben, 2 brothers Benji and Cliff, sister Kyla, uncles, and nephews were forced to stay in a packed homeless shelter (update, we got word it was actually a neighbors) with the many others that were affected.
Now that the typhoon has passed thru, my family is back trying to live in their damaged house using tarps to keep the frequent rain out. It is not a pretty picture.
(Family pictures)
- It is the unfortunate truth that most people in the Philippines can only afford houses built with cheap materials and no insulation.
- Things were already tough there (no proper doors/windows, dirt floors, outdoor shower, no HOT water, no refrigerator)
- When my family returned to see the damage...their house, all of their clothes, household items, and personal items were ruined and many items were washed away in the flood.
- Jobs are always scarce and most people there don't have the luxury of a rainy day fund. My family need your support!
WHAT DO THEY NEED?
THEY ARE URGENTLY IN NEED OF:
- Funds for material, labor, and transportation to rebuild their house so they can function in the most basic way again.
I am doing all I can, but I don't have enough funds on my own to get them back on their feet right away and I can't stand the thought of them being homeless for the next months to come. We know trusted construction people in the Philippines to rebuild my family's houses and hopefully many other houses that extra funds allow.
ESTIMATED COSTS FOR ONE HOUSE REBUILD?
- Materials: $6,000
- Labor: $8,000
- Transportation: $400
- Transition Relief Costs: $600
- Total = $15,000
I will be updating donators on the step-by-step progress made for this fundraiser. 100% of the funds will show them clearly going towards My family and hopefully, other family members' houses rebuild for the basic shelter they need.
EVERYONE IS EXTREMELY GRATEFUL FOR ANY DONATIONS.
Once My family gets a roof back over their heads again, they will take in other families that need shelter while the rebuild continues. All additional funds raised will go straight to helping others affected in the area.
I have lived in the Philippines my whole life until a couple of years ago when I started to moved to the US. My heart is heavy and I can't be there with my family right now due to many reasons.
I don't know where else to turn for help during these tough times. THANK YOU for any help you can offer.
If you cannot add to the fund, PLEASE PLEASE share this with 5 or more people you know can make a positive impact in these people's lives.
Thank you so much,
Karen
