Please help George with a Life saving Double Lung Transplant
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Michele and this is my husband George, who suffers from Stage IV Sarcoidosis.
George began having lung problems at 42 years of age in 2008. In 2012, he was given an 8-year life expectancy and despite that has continued to fight the odds while struggling with oxygen dependency, numerous hospitalizations, and one failed waitlist experience.
He started visiting the University of Washington’s transplant team in 2016 to evaluate his lung health and keep track of his disease's progress. In late 2024, George had met all necessary steps to receive his transplant. But we received news hours after his last vaccination appointment, that he was being denied due to the lack of a second full time caregiver.
George's local pulmonologist has given us new hope for more time together as a family, and parents to guide our 3 children into adulthood, by offering a Double Lung Transplant evaluation in Phoenix, Arizona!
This opportunity revitalizes my ability to return to work and continue to support my family financially, whereas I have been unable to work outside the home since 2020. We are forever grateful for this opportunity but will face financial struggles during this process. Your donations will go a long way in helping us to be able to accept this life extending surgery!
We are humbly asking for your help, within this medical fundraiser, to cover costs of having to travel to Phoenix, Arizona, from the Pacific Northwest, and stay for the mandatory 3-6 months post-op. With 2/3s of the costs related to transplants taking place post operation, here is a quick break down of what your contributions will go towards:
- Travel costs to Arizona round trip: gas $500x2, hotel for one night: $130x2 [~$1300]
- 6 months of reduced rent through the hospital for the mandatory stay in Arizona: $1700/month x 6 months [~$10,500]
- Food costs: ~$12/day x 6 months [~$2200]
- Non-insurance covered costs (ie. prescriptions, post-op care, pulmonary rehab): [~$1000]
- Misc. personal needs: [~$500]
- Post-Op care [anything left over]
Your encouragement, thoughts, and any form of support mean more than words can express. Thank you for standing by us —in support, friendship, and now, in this important fight for life. I, as the mother, wife, and full-time caregiver, am super appreciative of YOU reading our story and value YOU!
