Please help Gavin get a neuropsych assessment

Gavin is a 15 year old kid who has been largely failed by the system. There are a number of suspected possible diagnoses but accessing proper assessment and treatment has been a challenge throughout his life.

We are fortunate to have recently found a good pediatrician who is committed to untangling the mystery of exactly what Gavin needs. The new pediatrician recommended that we see Dr. Andrea Downie for a neuropsychological assessment, to find out what is going on. Our hope is to use the information provided by the assessment to tailor an appropriate treatment plan and to give Gavin the tools he needs to face the world. We are currently on a waiting list and expect an appointment in February 2023.

The problem is that OHIP does not cover this and the price tag for this assessment is $4,500. Dr. Downie has also warned me that Gavin may even need further assessment by a child psychologist afterwards, with an estimated cost of $2,000-$3,000.

We're taking it one step at a time and have only set our fundraising goal to cover the neuropsychological assessment and GoFundMe's fees. Any money raised beyond our initial goal will be used towards further assessment fees, treatment, and any accommodations Gavin requires.

Gavin is a sweetheart. It's been awful as parents to watch him struggle socially and academically. The toll Gavin's developmental journey has taken on his mental health is undeniable, yet he remains passionate about his dreams. He deserves the best chance at achieving them as we can give him.

Gavin has no shortage of loving family, however, our economic situation at home does not allow for this type of expense. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
