My friend Gareth lost 2 beloved cats (Luke & Penny), his home, and most belongings in a fire. His Mom, Linda, passed away a few months ago.

Anakin (Luke's brother) survived the fire, but spent several days in an incubator, and his vet bill was over $6,000. Like many Floridians, Gareth recently lost insurance because his home is in a 'low lying' area. The estimated costs for home repairs and replacing furniture, appliances, etc, is over 50K, which is in addition to Anakin's vet bill.

After receiving a degree from University of FL in Chemical Engineering, Gareth served in Jamaica for 2 yrs in the Peace Corps. He inspected drinking water systems and taught chemistry to high school students.

For decades, Gareth has donated blood platelets (very painful), which takes several hrs every month. I asked him why and he said:

"Lots of people donate plasma, because you get money. But platelets help cancer patients, bone marrow recipients, premature babies..."

I believe my friend who has always been willing to contribute to those in need (including strangers), is worthy of receiving help during this difficult time. Please donate whatever you're able to, and please SHARE.
