Luna is our 6 year old border collie,
She is normally full of energy and can never keep still.
But one morning she suffered a serious seizure episode which lasted for more than 8 hours.
We rushed her to the closest emergency vet where they were able to put her under an anaesthetic after giving her emergency anti-seizure medication and a last resort IV in an attempt to lessen the effects of the seizure, and hopefully, get her out of it. We had to leave the vet without Luna, not sure if we would ever be bringing her home again.
After 7 painful hours and regular updates from the vet, we were able to go and see her. She was off the IV and finally out of her seizure, but we are still a long way from normality. She couldn't move a muscle and could barely take a breath, her eyes barely able to focus on us, although she wouldn't stop trying. Luna wasn't in a condition to come home yet, but she was still alive. As we got up from her bed she let out the most gentle whimpers, we knew our baby was still in there, we couldn't give up. We had to leave her at the vet until the next day. We were once again not sure if she would recover or have another episode. All we hoped was to have her back home, even if it was for her last day.
During that time Luna had to live with the pain in her body, not being able to move, not being able to go to the toilet on her own and she couldn't vocalise her pain. She slowly started to regain control of her neck and, with help, she was able to drink and eat a little. This progress was enough for the vet to recommend we let Luna recover at home and rehabilitate with us in a place she knows.
Since returning home she still can't walk, can't lay down by herself, can't eat or drink unassisted. We have to do everything for her, every hour of every day, in the hope that soon she will start to get better.
We won't stop doing all we can until she has her independence and quality of life back.
Sadly, the cost of her care is constantly rising but so are the chances of her staying home and getting her life back.
She is such a kind, gentle and loving soul. She deserves every chance she can get.
All the funds we raise will help us cover her initial emergency treatment and proper rehabilitation for the next few weeks. As well as additional testing and blood work, to determine the root cause and hopefully get us a solution to her, potentially, life long condition.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. Any help is really appreciated.
Luna has so much life left to live and we will give her nothing but the best we can for as long as we have her.
