Please Help Fred Help my Mom

Most of you know me. For those who don't, my name is Carrie Hurley. I'm the daughter of two of the most beautiful people.

I'm usually very open, open to a fault, and vulnerable. I share my struggles in hopes of helping someone else. Today, I'm at my most vulnerable. This time I'm asking for help. It's not easy being on this side.

My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2021. She didn't pass the breathing test, so surgery was not an option. She began radiation, but was only able to complete 4 of 15, as her immune system was very low. By the recommendation of her oncologist, she spent the next few months trying to build her strength. At her next oncology appointment, we learned her tumor shrunk, and hadn't spread, after just 4 treatments! We had a great Christmas with this news, despite not being together due to Covid. We were full of hope!

Mom was rushed to the hospital by ambulance a few weeks ago. There's something going on with her heart, but the doctor was far more concerned with her cancer. The tumor has grown and spread to her lymph nodes. My parents were sent home to try and process "best case scenario: 6-12 months".

My stepdad, Fred has not left my mom's side. I could never thank him enough or explain how much that means to me. Mom is being treated like the queen that she is. And I know I speak for our entire family, that you cannot put a price on that kind of comfort. Comfort for Mom, and comfort for us.

Fred hasn't been able to attend work since mom's diagnosis. And we all support him spending this time with mom. He has been her caregiver, nurse, chauffeur, chef, nutritionist, companion and support, among so many other roles.

I wish this GoFundMe could buy my mom more time. It can't. But I'm hoping the financial support can alleviate a bit of stress for them.
