News from the Humane Society of Louisiana: Marksville police officers seized four severely neglected, malnourished, and matted dogs yesterday, May 12, and arrested their owner, James Clayton Chenoweth, age 71.

Police charged Chenoweth, out of Texas, with four counts of simple cruelty to animals. Chenoweth's bond was set at $10,000.

A local rescuer, Malaine Pitre Glover, agreed to foster the dogs, and our Humane Society agreed to pay for their veterinary care. Shaggy, matted, smelly hair covered their emaciated bodies.

They shall remain at a local vet clinic during their recovery.
