I am 59. I work with people in the throes of mental health and addictions every day. I am also a singing drummer, on weekends (pre-COVID) I was born with very straight, even teeth, as illustrated in the old picture of me.
In 2010, I got sweet-talked by a very persuasive dentist to "Lengthen your smile, and we'll make your bite stronger and better. "
It was a lie. I'm left with temporary "white "amalgam and "reinforcing wires" that started breaking and flaking loose almost immediately.
My company covers NONE of my medical or dental, nor prescriptions. I have several "pre-existing conditions" (Type 2 Diabetes, depression, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Pemphigus, ) all of which, I've been repeatedly told, EXCLUDE ME from company health benefits. I have appealed to the management team at the Not-For-Profit Agency for whom I work, and been rebuffed every time; and, at this juncture I can't chew properly (no molars on the bottom), and I'm unable to actually smile, because my smile looks like that of someone who's been smoking methamphetamine for YEARS...ESPECIALLY not cool in my profession.
All this from a not smoking, recovered Alcoholic, who has been sober for 32 years.
I'm looking at having to get some extractions, some titanium posts, an implanted partial plate, and a free-floating partial plate for those back molars. I've seen both a dentist, and a denturist, and they've outlined a plan of treatment for me that I simply cannot afford. I can't find an Insurer that can address my needs.
It pains me to find myself here, asking for the help of friends, family, and strangers.
Please help me get my Smile back.
Thanks for Caring and Helping;
Thane Satre
