I am Dave Thompson. I was born in Jamaica and grew up in Houston, Texas. I served over 30 years in the U.S. Army and retired in 2024, and now I'm living in Italy.

I'm raising money to help a close friend, Fabian Dawkins, and his family rebuild their home and lives after Malissa, a category 5 hurricane, destroyed everything they owned and devastated their community in northwestern Jamaica.

As the storm raged and ripped his house apart, in the dead of night, Fabian was forced to load his family in their car and seek shelter elsewhere. It was by the grace of God that they narrowly escaped with their lives as the strong wind and rising water tossed their car about, and rain and flying debris battered the car.

My wife and I met Fabian in 2023 when we were in Jamaica for a family reunion. He was our caddy during a golf outing, and we quickly became friends and have kept in close contact since. He and his wife and four young children are having an exceedingly difficult time as they struggle to rebuild their home and navigate through the physical and emotional impacts of this devastating event.
