This kitten is one of 7 were trying to nurse from their mom despite her suffering from severe mastitis. The blood on her face is from her mother.

Please be aware that the photos of mom’s condition are very graphic.

Mom will need ONGOING care especially since this is leaning more towards the possibility of cancer.

This young mother never stopped caring for her babies, even through extreme pain. We are truly in awe of her strength and dedication—she endured so much without showing it, just to keep her kittens alive even outside in the elements.

Because she is so young and the condition is unusually severe, there is concern about a more aggressive underlying issue, including the possibility of cancer. We will monitor her healing before determining if a biopsy is needed, as this is not a typical case of mastitis.

At this time, she can no longer nurse. Her kittens will be bottle-fed so that she can focus on healing, which is our top priority.
