Dear friends, loved ones and fellow humans - Our remarkable, loving Erin needs our help!
On April 21st Erin was stricken down by a terribly painful, debilitating headache. April 23rd she went into the emergency room where she was misdiagnosed with a migraine. After 3 weeks the symptoms were getting worse, so she went to her primary Doctor whom ordered a scan of her brain and spine. They found that she had been leaking cerebral spinal for 2 months due to a tear in her cerebral spinal bursa. The outer layer of her brain has thickened, and she is in terrible pain. The neurosurgeon gave her a couple of options for treatment. The first of which was to lay still for 5 days and allow the body time to heal the tear on it's own. She has been horizontal for a week and the symptoms have not changed. The next step is to have the neurosurgeon perform a procedure called a "Blood Patch". This would cause an inflammatory response and hopefully close the tear. We have no idea how this tear happened. If that does not work, they will need to do surgery. Removing muscle from another part of her body to insert into the area of the tear. They will need to do another contrast scan to find the tear. At this point they still don't know where it is, but do know its a tear in the bursa because she has pockets of fluid outside of the bursa all the way down her spine.
Erin needs your help. As many of you know Erin has a small business working for herself as a hair stylist. She has not been able to work since May 17th. She has no disability insurance nor any supplemental income to help her keep up with the cost of living during this time that she is down. It's looking like it could take 3 months to get her back on her feet. With so many unknown variables this is a conservative guess. Her monthly expenses amount to $4,000. She has health insurance, but as you know, it will only cover a fraction of the medical bills.
Erin has been blessed with a small army of friends that have been taking shifts coming to her house to care for her while she's on bed rest. It would be helpful to have more people on the team. Cooking, cleaning, meal preparation, and making her laugh. If this is something you would be interested in please let us know.
The financial focus for right now is to cover her cost of living so this does not cause her to become homeless. As the medical bills come in we will reassess the fundraising efforts. For right now we are hoping to raise $12,000 in order to provide 3 months of bills paid.
